The name really says it all. Think not so much Gorillas in the Mist but on the Piss. Yes, it is a country pub and I took my city slicker hat off when walking in but could not even settle in for a casual boozy night!
Happy with the bargain price of $6.00 for two schooners of New we headed through the poolroom and out to the beer garden. Sadly there was obviously a local male group having a bit of a get together and this culminated in the speeches which started something like “hey you f***ers shut the f**k up and listen will ya!” – charming. We understandably took this as our cue to go back inside.
I must say that from this point on I was not exactly viewing the place with an open mind and it was lovingly suggested by my partner that perhaps I was being a bit of a snob. Taking a deep breath I proceeded back through the pool tables and into the main bar.
So, once back inside we were entertained by a guy on a keyboard and a drum kit not exactly a show case of local talent but not overly painful (see I am trying to be charitable!). The walls have a few signed drum lids from some recognisable artists which implies that this is not the extent of what the hotel has to offer entertainment wise.
There is of course a pokie room and also a restaurant called Fishtales. We did not eat there but it looked popular when we stuck our heads in!
The crowd is very local and there isn’t a pair of Manolos in sight!
The alternative is the RSL across the road. Needless to say we went to the bottle shop next door and returned to our holiday cottage!
