I was instantly and surprisingly taken with this pub, and to explain why, I'll need to tell a little story.
On this particular 'reviewing session'*, we'd already taken in four CBD pubs before heading out towards King's Cross, where we planned to meet a bunch of people at the Peppermint Lounge. We'd not long before visited the atrocious Marble Bar, and as a result, I was almost obsessed with how bad it was. Walking in the door, Josh took his leave and went off to explore the facilities, leaving me to order the drinks. Josh was driving, and hates post-mix soft drinks, so I asked,
"Do you have Diet Coke in bottles or Cans?"
"nope"
"What about sparkling mineral water?"
"This is a pub. we serve beer."
"OK, can I have have a bottle of Coopers"
"No"
"Why?"
"Cause it's happy hour. all the taps are 2 bucks"
And there began a renewed evening. From foul temper to happily drunk in one somewhat bizzarre exchange at the bar. We were welcomed by a cheerful British traveller of about 40, who stated merrily "I was packing, and I realised I'd forgotten to pack it!"
What "it" was, I never did discern.
The pool is cheap, there's a big screen showing 'The Panel', and it's happy hour. I could have cried.
Yes, I thoroughly recommend this place. It's top class.
