Our preliminary review visit was on a Monday afternoon, and I was surprised to see so many people in the front bar - the TAB was recieving some serious attention from the locals.
The front bar, where I spent the entire visit, is open, airy and clean, with some nice touches, such as the caricatures of locals which adorn the wall above the bar, and the wooden cabinets off to the right with tasteful little displays of wine and champagne. The lines of the room are nicely broken up with curves, making the bar easy on the eye and relaxing to be in.
Through the bar I can see the flashing lights of the pokie room, though noone seems to be playing. Not a big problem for me, drinking VB from elegant tall schooners as we chat and pass the time. A few hours later we leave. Down in the CBD, North Sydney will be bustling with office workers trying to get home, but up here, the Union is just as it was when we arrived. A haven, well worth the walk up the hill for.
