On our most recent visit, it was karaoke night. Now, the pubguide team's views on karaoke, if they're not already known, can be outlined in a few short words. Evil is one of these words. Pointless is another. Luckily, though, we were already well into a reviewing session and oiled enough to let it slip by.
The Strand looks fairly big from the outside, but once you're in you'll find it's smaller than you expected. Ther peninsular bar takes up a lot of space, and the pokie area takes up a fair amount too, and on Karaoke night, you'll often struggle to get a seat. We got lucky. It's a dark little place, which strangely was one of the first pubs I visited on arrival in Sydney. Nothing much has changed since then.
Expect a mixture of drinkers, from backpackers to darlo crims and back again, including, very probably, goths on their way to club 77 down the road.
Note : since this review was written, the Strand has had a major refit. A new review will be prepared soon
