Having decided to head out to The Spot to catch a movie, what better way to start and end the evening but in a pub? A quick glance through the ever reliable SydneyPubGuide.net list of pubs reveals the nearest pub to be Randwick's spacious Royal Hotel.
Being a Saturday, we wander over in the afternoon to find a fairly busy pub facing across a pleasant little green with a light breeze blowing. What better way to enjoy it than to sit outside on the Verandah area?
At weekends there's a special on Guinness - buy a pint and you get free Rock Oysters. Unfortunately I prefer Gunness to Oysters and give the shellfish a miss, and we head on out to watch the world go by. So far so good.
Post-film we head back up the slope to the pub to find it in a different state to the afternoon crowd. Now the crowd is young, boozy pool-playing lads and groups of late-teen, early-20s guys and girls, where the afternoon had seen a more middle-aged and late-twenties crowd. The TAB bar is closed and the lounge bar is getting a bit of a squeeze, so we, feeling a little old despite the group being composed of a range from 21 to 28, head on home.
We'd certainly go again, but I think it's an afternoon venue for us. review by: Jason
