Last time we were in, it was State Of Origin between New South Wales and Queensland. The place was PACKED. We were lucky enough to find a pillar to huddle around, so we drank away, feeling cramped, while all around us footie fans stood transfixed.

The Royal, by it's looks, is a summer hotel. Everyone looks at the balcony with a covetous eye, and hope to nab the next seat. The clientele is usually a mixture of big-money professionals and the usually mixed bag of builders, plumbers and sparkies.

Personally I like pubs that know how to hide their pokie machines. The Royal does a good kob, stashing them well out of the way at the back by the TAB area.

There's also a well stocked bottle shop and Five Ways' only ATM machine (in the bottle shop) whould you ever be stuck for a few bucks
