There was a time, when I was working on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, that I'd walk past the Paddington Green quite regularly. It had been fairly recently refurbished, having been formerly the Greenwood Tree, a tatty little establishment. It wasn't looking busy. I never actually saw more than ten people there at any one time.
Recently, though, it's really started to pick up momentum. To be fair, converting the Greenwood Tree into a swish Paddington yuppie bar, especially in the no-mans land between 'boutiqueville' and Darlinghurst, was always going to be a tricky job. But they've pulled it off well.
Our most recent visit was as part of an extended crawl home from the city, so we only stopped for one, but we could tell that the Paddington Green is really picking up. plenty of 20-somethings in office clothes, obviously earning a fair bit. Have they found their target market? Seems so.
The first floor has recently opened as a 'clublet', and there are regular appearances by hip DJs, there's a decent menu, good cold beer and a pool table. There's premium comfy seating near the window, and plenty of tables, even if the crowd prefer to stand.
Not bad. We'll keep you posted on its progress.
