The Nelson is a rangy pub in classic Aussie style, with a large central bar surrounded by stools, a classic tiled decor and much battered memorabilia. Unfortunately the main bar exudes a fairly down-at-heel atmosphere, personified by the backround waft of stale beer as you walk in.
The lounge bar has a slightly more comfortable feel, but still suffers a little from the moth-eaten feel of the place. After race meetings and sporting events the place fills up a lot more, but even full it's not comfortable enough for us.
The pool tables do a brisk trade with workies and locals shooting the breeze over a couple of games, and the beer is good and cold. If you're not bothered about the atmosphere and just want a few quiet games and a couple of cooling VBs, go for it, but don't go with high expectations. review by: Jason
