Yes, I rate the Macquarie. It's a no-bullshit, "take me as I am" pub about equidistant from the foot of Oxford Street and Central. Taking two stools at the bar, we got our drinks quickly and took in the scene. It's an eclectic mixture of folk - a few office workers, a couple of scruffy looking blokes in the corner. a bunch of youngsters on their way out, and us. No-one cares how you look, just get in there and have a beer.
The decor is definitely what I would have expected had I walked into virtually any pub in a working-class part of, say, London. Wooden bar and fittings, slightly scruffy and dog-eared, but somewhere you can feel at home.
They've got a comedy club on weekends, which is on our 'to-do' list, and return visits are definitely on the agenda.
