Kuleto's is famous, nay notorious, for their happy hour cocktail deal.
As I sat at the bar awaiting my companion for the evening, I heard it
explined this way:
Punter: "I'll have a Martini, and a Whisky Sour:
Barguy: "No, you'll have two of each"
Punter: "No, there's only two of us"
Barguy: "Doesn't matter"
Punter: "Eh?"
Barguy: "Tell me what you want, pay for one each, I'm still going to give you two"
Punter proceeds to look bemused but happy.
And that's Kuletos, well mostly. It may be a cocktail bar, but don't
expect luxury lounges and scented candles and a fountain tinkling away
tastefully in the corner. What you get is a tiny, corners-knocked-off
newtown bar crammed to the rafters. Get in early to find a seat and
protect it with your life. Don't order a beer. If you don't think you
like cocktails, tough. Have a Martini. Have another. Repeat.
You'll like it.
