One of the 'Stonegrill' hotel bars, not unlike Cipps on Albion Street, JB's bar and grill is a fairly standard hotel bar, you could be anywhere between here an Kuala Lumpur. Of course I'm not drinking tonight so this review could be a function of my untrammeled cynicism. There's pool, Food and swirly carpet, but ehyer's a decent mixture of seating and a small outside area, and it's close to the Entertain ments centre, so it has busier spells than the one I'm experiencing. Like all hotel bars though it has no local crowd to speak of and not a lot in the way of character.
Now, don't get me wrong in any way, I'm not just b agging hotel bars. I've been to one or two good ones, but I think we can safely generalise and say that they're not designed for us. They're designed for hotel guests to have a quiet drinking withoutthe need to venture out into the big, bad, tourist trap of the big city. I just think that these hotel bars don't offer any experience beyond somewhere to get a drink within falling distance of your hotel room.
Also loses points, along with several other venues, for having a snack vending machine instead of serving snacks from behind that bar (as if it's too much trouble for the barman to grab a packet of chips for you while you're ordering your beer)
