In fact a North Shore instutution, in a similar way to, say, The Oaks. The Great Northern is a large, well presented traditional wood-fitted pub with a number of different settings. Front Bar (smoking) is bar stools and high tables. Head back and you go through the pokie area to the lounge area, with pool tables off to the right. Further back is the restaurant/bistro with cook-your-own barbecue options and the beer garden (a great feature in this area).
It's certainly popular, especially with office workers and local residents, and at lunchtimes there's often a decent queue for $10 specials and the usual grill menu and salad bar. Beer selection is good, with Cooper's, Bluetongue and a few other premiums as standouts. This is a great pub and well worth the effort.
