Right next to Sydenham Station, The General Gordon is an unprepossessing local which seems to have excess emphasis on the pokie lounge for our tastes. The front bar and 'bistro', and the beer garden, are slightly down at heel and dog-eared, which generally we like, but then sandwiched in the middle is what appears to be a fairly expensively fitted pokie lounge and adjoining bar. It's a contrast for sure.
Having said that, the beers are cheap, the locals are friendly enough and the bottle shop is well-stocked. The beer garden is a tad noisy, since the flight-path for Sydney Airport passes very close by indeed, and the altitude here is pretty low, but inside you wouldn't know the difference. It's also pretty spacious inside, and comfortable in a local-pub kind of way.
