I checked out the Freeway Hotel on Thursday, along with co-reviewer
Lucas, and we must admit, we find it to be in an odd place. Well
situated for the local office workers, warehouse staff, workies and
passing trade from the nearby freeway after which it's named, this
palce is large, reminiscent of some of the larger pubs out at the
Northern Beaches, with pretty much everything you'd expect, including a
drop-in cafe in the centre.
To the right, you'll find the sports bar, with TAB, pokies, two pool
tables and tall stools, to the left is the piano bar (on automatic for
our visit), with a more loungey feel, an outside area (smokers take
note) and a classy-looking restaurant. There's an underground car-park
too, for those of you with a designated driver, but don't try and park
there unless you're a patron - you need your ticket validated at the
bar.
Obviously some big investment has gone into the place, with plenty of
plasma screens, stylish decor and plenty of space, though for our visit
the place was a little empty. To be fair, though, it's pretty new and
we'd expect things to pick up once the after-work crowd catch on, and
maybe if there was more of an entertainment draw, then making the trip
from the residential area to what is in essence and industrial zone
would be more of an attractive prospect.
We also think things will change once the tunnel works are completed,
but for now we'll put it down as a worthwhile after-work spot for a
drop-in drink or two, and we'll certainly be heading back.
Oh, and a tip of the hat to the staff - service was excellent, thanks!
