I'm surprised by how many tables they have crammed in here (sorry, first impressions and all) – but I'm having a pleasant quiet drink with no hassles in a fairly nice looking pub. It seems to be an overlooked gem, at first glance anyway. More visits will confirm or deny this assertion, but there you go.
The walls around me are coated on one side with betting slips and posters, on the other with sporting memorabilia, but only two people are paying any attention to the TAB. It's a comfortable environment, and it's open late too. The selection of beer on offer is pretty much what you’d find in any NSW pub – VB, cascade etc.., but they also have Kilkenny and Guinness on tap, though tonight I'm not partaking of the black stuff.
The crowd is low on numbers, one table of middle-aged businessmen, one of guys intent on the TAB, one lone drinker who sauntered in from the pokie lounge and is quietly enjoying his beer, and me. A small group in the side bar tops off the complement. No raised voices, no hassles, just a calm, quiet drink in peace, which is just what I need right now.
