... well, we're not the biggest fans of Cheers. Josh tells me that a few years back it was a lot more distinctive than it is now, but myself, I can take it or leave it.
Sure, it's open really, really, late, but so are a lot of other places with more character. Sure, it's got a few pool tables, but so do a lot of other places.... you get the picture.
I think part of it is that I'm really not all that fond of this strip of George Street. But then again, perhaps it's the fact that Cheers really is fairly characterless - you could be almost anywhere.
It seems to go through phases - groups of peope adopt it for a while, then move on, to be replaced with another group, and another, and another. You get the occasional backpacker, but really it seem more to be the younger Western Suburbs kids on a night out in the city who gravitate here. Then they move on. Yup it's hard to put your finger on exactly what it is. Take it or leave it. We'll leave it for now.
