Bar Cleveland is oficially in Redfern. That's the postal district only, though. The actual location of the pub is more Surry Hills than Redfern, situated as it is on the Corner of Bourke and Cleveland Streets just a stone's throw from Moore Park.
Downstairs, the main bar is split by a large peninsular counter with plenty of space to get your drinks in, and accompanied by the back bar with more comfy seating, a pool table and some pokies. Outside, some streetside seating is available, though being right on Cleveland Street, it's not as serene as we'd like generally. Upstairs is a great cocktail bar which is much frequented by the Surry Hills young professional set.
As Bar Cleveland is open later than most of the other pubs in the area, we often fetch up here after an evening adrift on the ocean of Surry Hills pubs. The usual deal is earnest conversation over a few beers, as is our wont at that stage of the evening. Food is available until fairly late, and there's usually a good crowd. Give it a go if you're in the area, it's worth a crack. It also features on our rather long pub crawl along the length of Cleveland Street.
