SydneyPubGuide review : Chopper's Nuts Mark Brandon Read diversifies into pub snacks Chopper Read. A name from modern Australian folklore if ever there was
one. Immortalised in print and film, Chopper gained his stripes in
Melbourne's underworld and did his time, and now lives in seclusion in
Tasmania, where he takes things easy and likes to enjoy the occasional
Ale.
And this is where his latest venture comes from. I quote from the blurb on the back of the pack of Chopper's Nuts I have in front of me.
"In his quest for a better beer experience Mark put the pressure on
some of Australia's premier peanut producers to come up with a snack
worthy of his love for Ale".
The Company of Nuts are Chop's chosen producers, and they were kind
enough to send a batch up from Melbourne for SydneyPubGuide.net to try
out. The first two packs accompanied a few stubbies of VB, and let me
tell you they went down a treat. No weanie little nuts here - these
ones are full size premium peanuts and packed with flavour to boot. A
proper bar snack if ever there was one. We partook of the mexican
variety, which was good and spicy, and the sweet and salty, which
certainly lived up to the name. These are bar snacks for the discerning
eater.
Better still, they're 100% Aussie made, 100% Aussie owned and come in
six flavours; The aformentioned Sweet and Salty and Mexican varieties,
Chili, Salt and Vinegar, Smoked Hickory and Curry flavours. We'll be
looking out for these in Sydney bars very soon.
