Pub Sports It's that time of year. The cricket's over and the footy hasn't really started. How do you fill the void? Sydneysiders are mixing their leisure with their pleasure at pubs, clubs and bars all over town. We've all heard of drinking games, but 'pub sports' are something a little different. The term makes about as much sense as breweries and cigarette manufacturers sponsoring athletes, so if the one has happened, why not the other?
For those of us who've mastered the art of playing sport sober, there remains no greater challenge than doing it after a few drinks. We've dug around and uncovered some of the more unusual pub sports on offer in Sydney. This should keep you busy for a few days:
Beach Volleyball on the roof of the Union Hotel, Crows Nest
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-8pm, $20 per team
Lawn Bowls at Paddington Bowling Club, Paddington
Sunday afternoons, outdoor green-side bar, lots of youngsters, $5 to bowl.
Boules and Petanque at the Rose Hotel, Chippendale
Afternoons, in the beer garden sandpit, free
Sports Nights at the Friend in Hand, Glebe
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, $1 pool, darts and ping pong
Ten Pin Bowling at Fox Sports Central, Fox Studios
$6 a game daytime, $12.50 a game at night
Backgammon at Barons, Kings Cross
Free. Sit in comfy couches til the wee hours
