We called in at PJs on our way downtown to the Heritage Belgian Beer cafe recently and discovered a buzzing bar filled to the brim with a mixture of folk from suits to groups of girls to guys in rugby jerseys. As you'd expect it has the predictable Irish theme bar furniture and nick-nacks, crammed into a split-level bar with restaurant seating upstairs. It was full and quite smoky to the left of the bar (could benefit from a fan, we think), and we had to wait for a seat to free up before we could sit ourselves down and await our companions. eventually a table opened up and we were in, quick as you like. Good Guinness here, we're pleased to note, and the menu looks pretty good too, with a nice selection of trad Irish fare available. City Centre prices, as you'd expect, but not unbearable considering where you are. While it can't claim to be a Sydney Irish classic (in the vein of, say, Durty Nelly's), there seems to be something of a community spirit developing here which adds a nice atmosphere to the place. One we'll certainly call in at again.
