My experience of the Firehouse? Well, it's been mostly corporate-type post-work drinkies, several of which have been on the company's card. This is kinda lucky, because it's, of course, not cheap. Having said that, North Sydney is a serious little Business District and really can take the pace, and what are you doing there unless you have, to put a fine point on it, the cash?
Downstairs, in my opinion, is pretty ordinary chrome/wood sydney bar decor. Upstairs has lounges and a balcony, so if you're there, head upstairs. Both bars are prett equally staffed, generally, though the busyness of the whole place does tend to add a randome feel to any bar visit - for instance, I've been present while an unnamed company's corporate card has been signed by a non-signee in the name 'Mickey Mouse', and I've been personally charged four different prices for the same round four times in the same night, but hey if you're having a good night, well, it's all good*
Oh, and the food? Pizza recommended. Wine list good. Beers premium. Put your suit on and try it out.
* all good for the punters. potentially different for the financially-interested institutions. Legalese rules, huh?
