The Cricketers is a pub proving extraordinarily popular with the 20-somethings of Surry Hills. Pick a night, and you can be sure that finding a seat downstairs is impossible. We usually head straight upstairs to try and get a seat in one of the little rooms on the first floor.
There's plenty of noise, and there's a mixture of music played through the week. Sometimes it's dancy, sometimes more cruisy reggae-based stuff, but it's never overbearing to the point that you can't escape from it, unlike some other pubs we could name.
Tapas in the Beer Garden is a great option for an evening - it's only technically a garden, since it has a closable roof, but it's a great shady, cool spot in the summer. The tapas plates are $4 each, but they're not huge, so perhaps you'll need to get a few. The fish and chips plate is a good option, since it's about the biggest and most satisfying for four bucks.
Chips and other packaged snacks come from a vending machine by the door - which I've always found an unusual addition - it reallt does't say 'pub' to me, having a vending machine in the corner!
