Halfway up Mitchell Road in what I had thought of as "between Redfern and Sydney Park" (actually Erskineville), lies the Buckland Hotel. Quite well presented from the outside, sitting on and oblique corner, giving it some pavement space for seating, The Buckland looks out on the passing traffic with a smile.
Inside, it's a variation on the Sydney Wood and Chrome theme, but tweaked to become less impersonal and more comfortable than I've yet seen this theme achieve.
We arrived with a two-for-one meal voucher tucked in the wallet and camera in hand. Enjoying Matilda Bay and White Russians we tucked ourselves away in a corner and awaited our Gourmet Sausages and Mash and the Fish of The Day.
The food was quite excellent, and we enjoyed it tucked away in a booth at the end of the bar over a few more drinks, and bantered with the staff. This pub is, I must say, recommended with acapital R and we'll be back for one or two more, we tell ya.
