I'd never been to the Annandale before this visit, and I was certainly impressed when the taxi driver eventually got me there via a somewhat circuitous route from Circular Quay. It's spacious, friendly, has decent accoustics, two bars, and the Pokies are being phased out. What more could you ask for.
It was still light when I arrived, and no-one was asking for a cover charge on the door, so I slunk in and took up station near the back of the main bar on the very comfortable cushion bench with a beer and a book. Sophie arrived, and the stage was being set up. All was right in the world, even though I'd got rather disoriented just getting there!
Cover charges were collected a little later, more beers were imbibed, and suddenly the music was here. A great gig from a great Aussie band, definitely not short on value. The Annandale had proven its reputation as one of the top five live music pubs in Sydney with flying colours. All too soon it was all over, and a happy crowd tramped out at closing time to find some sutainence.
Of course, being too drunk to know better, we went to McDonald's. Guess you can't have everything...
